چکیده

Paraffinic froth treatment (PFT) is an essential step in oilsands extraction. The ability to quantitatively understand and control asphaltene precipitation induced by solvent dilution key technology innovation PFT process. In this work, we investigate the early stage of a model oil system response diffusive addition quasi-2D confinement. Using total internal reflection fluorescence microscope, provide direct visualization size distribution structural characteristics precipitates with spatial resolution ~200 nm temporal 250 ms. Our results show correlation between number particles concentration paraffinic diluent. Notably aggregates were found consist primary submicron similar from 200 400 radius. These may be elementary units that aggregate form bigger via aggregation. growth time decreases increase n-pentane observation area. findings work new insight into effects mixing on morphological are important for association water solids separation properties.

A Thin Layer Imaging with the Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy

Total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy (TIRFM) is an optical technique that allows imaging of a thin layer of the sample with a thickness of about 100-200 nm. It is used in science of cell biology to study cellular processes, especially near the membranes of living cells. This method is based on the total internal reflection phenomenon, where the evanescent wave is generated in the l...

Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy.

Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy (TIRFM) is an elegant optical technique that provides for the excitation of fluorophores in an extremely thin axial region ("optical section"). The method is based on the principle that when excitation light is totally internally reflected in a transparent solid (e.g., coverglass) at its interface with liquid, an electromagnetic field, ca...

Topic Introduction Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy

The goal in fluorescence microscopy is to detect the signal of fluorescently labeled molecules with great sensitivity and minimal background noise. In epifluorescence microscopy, it is difficult to observe weak signals along the optical axis, owing to the overpowering signal from the out-of-focus particles. Confocal microscopy uses a small pinhole to produce thin optical sections ( 500 nm), but...

Transient state monitoring by total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy.

Triplet, photo-oxidized and other photoinduced, long-lived states of fluorophores are sensitive to the local environment and thus attractive for microenvironmental imaging purposes. In this work, we introduce an approach where these states are monitored in a total internal reflection (TIR) fluorescence microscope, via the characteristic variations of the time-averaged fluorescence occurring in ...

Total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy in cell biology.

Key events in cellular trafficking occur at the cell surface, and it is desirable to visualize these events without interference from other regions deeper within. This review describes a microscopy technique based on total internal reflection fluorescence which is well suited for optical sectioning at cell-substrate regions with an unusually thin region of fluorescence excitation. The technique...
